My 6 Step Morning Skincare Routine
In this post, you will learn about the six steps and products I use every morning to clear my skin. I am not a medical professional giving medical advice. I am just sharing my opinion from articles I have read. I have read that a skincare routine should have about six steps: oil cleanser, foaming cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and SPF. I have been using this routine for a while and have seen clear results. However, nobody is perfect, and acne happens. One thing I noticed that causes acne for me is the foods I eat. If I eat too much dairy or gluten, it will cause acne and worsen the texture of my skin. Therefore, it is just as important to consider what we put in our bodies as what we put on them.
This week, I went to CVS and bought different products to replenish my stash. I have noticed that it is good to change things up once in a while. I am able to see which products work best for my skin type and which don’t. My skin type is a combination of oily and dry. I am oily in my T zone with the occasional eczema. This makes my skin sensitive to harsh products, so while I am shopping for new products, I use the Yuka app.
The Yuka app is a free app where you can scan beauty and food items to test for healthy ingredients. You open the app, click on scan, and scan the barcode on the product. It then recognizes the exact item and gives a score out of 100. The higher the score, the healthier the item is for you. It also includes the ingredients and which are good or bad for you. If the app scores a product low, it will show you which ingredients are harmful and recommend healthy alternatives. The only downside to the app is you have to be in-store to scan items.
Step 1: Oil Cleanser
I am currently using CeraVe oil cleanser. It works well at getting the sebaceous filaments and makeup out of my pores. It is super moisturizing and doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry after.
Step 2: Foaming Cleanser
Yes, I double cleanse. I have noticed that I get a much deeper clean when I cleanse twice with two different cleansers. I just bought this foaming cleanser by La Roche-Posay. The quality of this cleanser is so good. A little goes a long way. I use a silicone brush to work in the product.
Step 3: Toner
Toner balances the pH level and protects the skin barrier. I just bought this toner from Neutrogena. I pour some into my hands and spread all over my face. I let it mostly dry before applying my serum.
Step 4: Serum
I use this vitamin C serum from CeraVe. This product has completely changed the texture of my skin. It smoothes and brightens my complexion. A serum is not a replacement for moisturizer, and I have noticed that it dries into the skin very quickly.
Step 5: Moisturizer
I recently bought this moisturizer from La Roche-Posay. I made the mistake of applying too much of this moisturizer and my face was covered in oil. The next time I used a very small amount, it was perfect. This is a better moisturizer to use to soak in all night.
Step 6: SPF
I recently bought this BB cream from Maybelline. It includes SPF 30 with a light foundation. To be honest, I have just incorporated this step into my routine. SPF is important for all skin colors, even dark complexions. Summer is coming, and we need to protect our skin.
More important than what we put on our skin is what comes from our hearts. The imagery of eating unhealthy foods manifesting as acne on my skin reminded me of a verse Jesus once said. Matthew 15:11 says, “It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles.” He is basically saying that the contents of our hearts will eventually come out of our mouths. Who we are on the inside is what matters most because people will recognize our hearts by the words we say and how we treat one another. So, as an encouragement, let’s practice beauty inside and outside. Let’s fill our hearts and minds with things that are good for us so others can see the goodness of God.
